History
DAF 55
The DAF 55 epitomized Dutch engineering ingenuity with its rubber belt-driven Variomatic continuously variable transmission. This innovative system provided seamless acceleration and the unique ability to drive as fast backward as forward. Powered by a Renault-sourced flat-four engine, the 55 was spacious, economical, and became a motorsport curiosity in backward racing competitions. DAF's passenger car division was later acquired by Volvo.
