History
Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34
The Karmann Ghia Type 34 was designed to appeal to a more upscale market than the original Type 1-based coupe, featuring sharper Sergio Sartorelli styling and more interior space. Built on the VW Type 3 platform with its pancake engine, it offered better luggage capacity and refinement. However, it never achieved the popularity of its predecessor, with only 42,498 produced over eight years. The Type 34 was rarely exported to the United States, making it a surprise to many enthusiasts who only know the earlier, curvier Karmann Ghia model.
