History
Mercury Monterey Sun Valley
The Sun Valley represented Ford's attempt to bring Plexiglas aircraft technology to automotive design. A tinted transparent section in the roof created a unique greenhouse-like atmosphere and futuristic appearance. Special green-tinted glass and an internal blind attempted to manage solar heat, but occupants still complained about excessive warmth. The innovative concept proved impractical for widespread adoption, making these rare survivors highly collectible today as representatives of 1950s optimism and experimentation.
