History
Muntz Jet
The Muntz Jet was created by television sales pioneer Earl Muntz as America's answer to European grand touring cars. Early models featured aluminum coachwork over a tube frame, later switching to steel bodies for cost reasons. Each car was essentially custom-built with luxury appointments including leather upholstery and full instrumentation. Despite innovative engineering and celebrity ownership, each Jet sold at a loss, with only 394 produced before financial realities ended production.
