History
Standard Vanguard Phase I
Standard created the Vanguard specifically to earn vital export dollars in Britain's post-war recovery. Its robust separate chassis and high ground clearance made it exceptionally durable in harsh conditions from Australia to Africa. The wet-liner engine design allowed for easy maintenance, while styling cues from American fastbacks gave it transatlantic appeal. Though criticized for pedestrian performance, its reliability and practicality made it a genuine worldwide success story.
